“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”
~Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
What is The Beloved Community? The philosopher and theologian Josiah Royce first coined the term in the early 20th Century. Royce founded the Fellowship Of Reconciliation. Dr. King, who was a member of the Fellowship Of Reconciliation popularized the term, giving it a deeper meaning that appealed to people of goodwill throughout the world.
Dr. King’s beloved community can only be created through deep respect and a true recognition of brother/sisterhood. It also denotes the true acceptance of all beliefs that serve the cause of equality and the acknowledgment of all religious and spiritual traditions as true paths to enlightenment.
Interfaith Friday will be a sweet and informative time to read and reflect on faiths from around the world. A blend of what we know and what we can learn from one another.
